Their operations have specifically targeted prominent public figures and banking institutions to facilitate fraudulent investment schemes. The entities operating as Unknown Fraudsters have faced significant scrutiny for a consistent pattern of exploiting emerging AI technologies to manufacture trust. They have been accused of executing an AI deepfake of the India finance minister to promote a fake investment scheme, as well as allegedly creating and distributing an AI deepfake of India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, to deceive citizens into investing in a fraudulent platform. Furthermore, the actors were identified in a separate incident where Equity Bank issued a public warning regarding unauthorized deepfake scam ads featuring the organization's CEO.
